Stewards of Egmont Key

For more than three decades, the Egmont Key Alliance has stood as a steward of one of Florida’s most treasured islands. Founded in 1991 as a volunteer-led Citizens Support Organization, the Alliance has supported habitat restoration, lighthouse preservation, educational programming, and the care of historic Fort Dade — always guided by a shared love for Egmont’s unique blend of nature and history.

In recent years, Egmont has faced intensifying challenges: hurricanes that reshaped its shoreline, the ongoing threat of sea level rise, and the delicate balance of protecting both wildlife and cultural heritage. Recognizing the urgency of this moment, the Alliance has entered a new chapter — growing from a small volunteer circle into a broader coalition of partners, including community advocates, scientists, cultural leaders, and government agencies.

Today, the Egmont Key Alliance is not only honoring the legacy of those who came before us but also rallying people to take bold, collaborative action. Our mission is clear: to protect the past, regenerate the future, and ensure that Egmont Key remains a living touchstone for generations to come.
